Mooer Blues Crab Classic Blues Overdrive

So after developing a pedal infatuation from watching another episode of the JHS show I purchased the Mooer Blues Crab pedal.

These pedals are a budget line that you can find on amazon. Here’s the affiliate link if you are interested. They currently run $46.99 new. Currently if you search on reverb using our affiliate link you’ll find that with shipping they will run more than amazon if you have free shipping. So, if you want to find a deal the best bet is to search your local area on Facebook Market place or Craigslist where you may be able to score one for around $25.

The pedal is a nod to the Marshall Bluesbreaker sound. Even the Blues Crab logo is in a similar style.

So the argument for buying a pedal like this is that you get the sound you are looking for at a fraction of the price of the original. The originals currently run about $500 on reverb. So for about 1/10th of the price these pedals make the sound available to people without the budget for a $500 used pedal. There is currently a reissue of the pedal but availability is very limited at the moment.

We all know the arguments against a pedal like this so I’ll not go into it at length here.

My final take on any “clone” pedal is that I take the copy for what it is: a copy. In my opinion it doesn’t take away from the original as long as it isn’t a replica being sold as an original.

Blues Crab Overview

From the top we have 9v dc in. Next are two mini knobs for level and tone. Then we have the center knob for gain. The last button is the on off switch at the bottom. The on off switch clicks. On the sides we have the 1/4″ input and output.

Tbe pedal is part of Mooer’s “Micro Series” pedals. The dimensions are 1.75 x 4.25 x 2.25 inches. This is good if you don’t want to take up a lot of space on your pedal board.

Here’s a short demo of the pedal using my Adam Jones Epiphone Les Paul Custom through my Blues Jr IV amp (more details in video description on YouTube).
