Jerry Cantrell Prophecy Les Paul Custom Bone White

Check out the new Jerry Cantrell Prophecy Les Paul Custom in Bone White.

The revived Prophecy line of Epiphone guitars are a modern twist on the original models. They all feature custom voiced Fishman Fluence pickups, 24 jumbo frets, “Custom” features of block fretboard inlays on an ebony fretboard, and a diamond headstock inlay.

The Jerry Cantrell Prophecy departs slightly from these specs. Replacing the block inlays are circle in diamond custom inlays.

Another difference is the body contours. Jerry’s prophecy does not have the neck heel carve or the belly cut on the back of the body. If you’ve played stock Les Pauls then this will feel normal. But if you were looking for the extra comfort cuts then this may be a bit of a let down. The neck profile is also custom to Jerry’s specifications.

Also Bone White is a custom color that is not found within the Prophecy series.

A few final touches is Jerry’s name on the truss rod cover and the “JJ” in a circle logo on the back of the headstock.

This also comes with a custom black hardshell case with Jerry Cantrell’s name and the Epiphone logo. The case is sold separately for the standard Prophecy guitars.

Visually the guitar is stunning. The combination of the circle in diamond inlays, the bone white paint, and the diamond headstock inlay make the guitar stand out. Add to that the three voices of “a warm “Patent Applied For” vintage humbucker, hot modern humbucker, and a shimmering single-coil sounds accessed via push-pull pots and you have a sonically versatile and awesome looking guitar.

Who is this guitar for?

I think this guitar will be great for someone who is looking for a slightly less modern feeling Prophecy but wants the modern sounds. It blends a lot of the features of the Prophecy line with more traditional Les Paul features in terms of body shape and neck contour.

The bonus is that with the pickups you get traditional humbucker and single coil tones in addition to the modern hot tones. And you get them in a package that is a departure from the traditional.

First Example Broken Headstock

Well my Jerry Cantrell Epiphone Prophecy arrived with a broken headstock. I was pretty bummed.

So, unfortunately, my tone review and playing demo was delayed. The guitar was packaged upside down in the secondary box. Which is not ideal for any guitar. It is even worse with a Epiphone/Gibson guitar in a hardshell case. The headstock ends up hitting the top of the case if dropped. In the above video you can see the result.

It is a cool guitar though. The Bone White finish has a cool translucence to it that I wasn’t expecting.
